When you make changes to the BIOS of your computer you can improve how fast it will boot up. You enter the BIOS by pressing the F12, F2 or Delete at a specific time when your computer is booting up. The boot order is the first thing you will want to take a look at. The hard drive should be the first option in the boot order. You can also speed up the boot time by removing all the other options from the boot order list. When you do this the system does not have to run a check to see if there is a floppy or CD in the drives. If you ever do need to boot from a CD or a floppy you can always add the entries at that time. Next turn off them memory check and floppy seek in the BIOS as well. Check to see if you can set the hard drive to best performance. Making these changes to your BIOS will give you a noticeably faster boot time.

Other things to do to help keep your system running fast and smooth are to keep your operating system patched. Windows offers patches to the OS on a regular basis. It is important that you download these patches. You can turn on automatic updates which will require no intervention on your part and your system will always have the latest updates from Microsoft. To turn on automatic updates you find the setting in the Control Panel. You can set the time of day you want the updates to download. You can also indicate if you want to install All, Critical or Optional updates automatically. You should have the system check and install updates everyday.
