It is so true that having files and directories that have pieces all over the place on the hard drive is a pure nightmare for the PC. It has to hunt all over the hard drive for all piece of the main program file as well as all the related files. This is something that causes it to have to slow down a bit while it hunts for everything it needs. This is the reason that a thorough “defrag” is recommended often.
This is one of those maintenance tasks that need to be done every single day no matter how much you do or don’t do. The fact of the matter is that just the act of pulling up a file or document or picture or starting a program fragments it. And this happens each and every time this is done. So even if you do not really do that much with your PC or go online that often you still need to defragment the hard drive. In this case it might not be necessary to do so every day though. You could possibly be safe doing a “defrag” every other day or even every three days then.
IObit has a good defragment tool called Smart Defrag that does a very good job to defragment the internal and any external hard drives you use. It is easy to find online and is a free program. It also goes hand-in-hand with IObit’s “Advanced System Care” and “Security 360” to keep your computer running its best.
