You can optimize and boost the performance of the speed you browse the internet. There are several factors that can impact how fast you download information and how fast you can surf the internet. Some are beyond your control and others are not. For example you cannot control how fast your ISP’s connection to the internet is. Time of day and the number of other users using your network provider can also affect your internet connection speeds.

However there are some ways you can improve how fast your browsing experience is no matter the type of connection you use.

For dial-up connections you want to be sure that you are using a 56k modem and when you connect it is at that speed. You can see in the task bar how fast your connection is. Be sure to use phone cords less than eight feet long and remove all other devices between the modem and the wall jack even surge protectors as anything can create line noise and make for a slower connection.

If you are using a cable modem you can have speeds five hundred times faster than dialup or even more. But still you can improve this performance if you shop the providers in your area and find the fastest, most reliable network.

Other connection methods include ISDN and DSL and they both have issues related to connection speed and well as general overall service. ISDN is complicated to install and poor customer support. DSL is the latest on the market and only available in limited areas.

There are four simple things that you can do that will help improve the speed you browse the internet as well as your overall computing speed.

The first thing to do is to disable the indexing service. This feature will consume a lot of system resources and can adversely affect the performance of your computer. When you disable this feature you will gain hard drive space and see an improvement in performance.

Next change the concurrent download limit in your internet explorer. The default setting allows for only two files to be downloaded at the same time. You can optimize this setting and download up to sixteen files from the same server at the same time.

Resizing the cache size in your internet explorer can also free up hard drive space. The default setting allows for a large number of temporary internet files to be cached. Storing all these tiny files can take up a lot of space on your hard drive and cause the disk to become fragmented. You should lower the maximum size to one hundred twenty-eight for cached files for optimal performance.

Changing the display speed of your Windows Menus can be optimized to improve the speed of your computer. When you clear the slide or fade menus you can see a noticeable improvement in performance.

All these tweaks have proven successful in optimizing your computer based on analysis by utilities designed to analyze performance.

Computers become cluttered over time with files that are unnecessary and need to be cleaned out. This can cause your PC to become slower. Also if you have older hardware and software that you have not updated they may be the cause of the lack of speed you are experiencing on your computer.

There are steps you can take to help increase the speed of your PC. The first thing to do is to get rid of the files that may be cluttering up your computer. Clutter may be a result of the normal operations of a computer. Files are constantly being moved, copied, deleted and saved. This results in leftover files that end up taking space on the hard drive. New computers run fast, but over time they begin to slow down. What are the reasons that make computers slow down?

There are many reasons why a computer may become slower as it ages. Computers are constantly creating, deleting and copying information and files from place to place. Temporary files are created by programs as incremental saves in case the program shuts down unexpectedly. These facts can create bits of files that are placed all over the hard drive. If you are limited on the amount of hard drive space you have from the beginning this can quickly result in a slower responding computer.

The computer needs room to create cached files in order to copy and paste. If you do not have enough room on your computer it will take a long time for these processes to perform if they are able to perform at all.

If you experiences freezing up of programs and they or your system crashes it may be an indicator that you need to clean up your hard drive.

The processor is also a large determinant on how fast your computer will run. The number of programs you have open will affect the performance of your computers processor. The more programs you open the more difficult it is to control and your system will begin to respond more slowly.

RAM memory is temporary and used to perform the calculations that your computer needs to do. Not allowing for enough RAM will make your computer programs run slow.

If your computer is running slow what can you do? There are several things that you can do that will help your computer run faster.

Most of the tweaks you can perform are just routine maintenance.

Physical issues that may create issues that will cause a computer to be slow include dust and heat. If there is a build up of dust it may prevent the fans from cooling down the computer. This will cause the computer to run hotter. Be sure that your vents are not against a wall or blocked. Be sure before you clean your computer that you turn it off and unplug it. Compressed air is a good way to blow away dust without harming your computer.

Over time all systems get to a point that they may need replacing. If your hardware is older then upgrading to a newer system with more memory, a faster processor and larger hard drive is the best way to get a faster system.

However, if you cannot afford a new computer right now there are some things you can do that might help increase your systems speed.

First begin by removing any programs you do not need or use. You can remove programs from the Control Panels utility Add/Remove Programs. Go through the list and remove anything you are sure you do not need. Do not just delete the programs but use the uninstall utility as this will remove the registry entries as well.

If your computer system is infected with a worm or virus they will run in the background without you even being aware of it except that you may notice performance issues with your computer.

Other errors can occur within your computer system that relates to its configuration. Running a registry cleaner is a good thing to do on a regular basis to fix any errors that occur by programs that are not installed or uninstalled properly. The registry also controls your hardware devices and there may be issues affecting their performance as well.

The registry has keys that are hard to fix manually and, in fact, if you make a mistake you can stop your operating system from working all together. This is why you need to purchase a registry cleaner. Microsoft does not provide a utility to fix registry errors unfortunately.
