If the speed of Windows is becoming an issue, one way to make it run faster is disabling some of its visual effects. It would mean you will have to sacrifice appearance for performance. If your PC is fast enough, there is no need to make a choice. But if it is very slow and can’t give an acceptable performance, it will help if you scale back on the visual features of your PC. There are 20 visual effects you can control. Some of these are the transparent glass look, the way menus open and close, and whether shadows are displayed. Which visual effects to disable depends upon your choice, but you can also let Windows to do the task for you.

To adjust the visual effects of Windows for better performance, follow the following steps:

1. Click the START button, click CONTROL PANEL button, click SYSTEM & MAINTENANCE tab then click the PERFORMANCE INFO AND TOOLS to open.

2. Click ADJUST VISUAL EFFECTS. If you are asked to provide password or confirmation, type the password and give the confirmation.

3. Click the VISUAL EFFECTS tab, click ADJUST FOR BEST PERFORMANCE, and then click OK. As mentioned above you can select LET WINDOWS CHOOSE WHAT IS BEST FOR MY COMPUTER.

After doing the above suggestion, and you have also closed the running programs that are currently not needed, and still your PC runs slowly, try restarting your computer. Restarting can fix performance issues where mostly the exact cause can’t be determined.
