Remote Differential Compression option works well for Windows 7 network and is found in Windows 7. It assists the system especially when it is suffering from slow speed. Experts suggest that this option should be switched off especially for systems that form part of the local network. In some cases RDC may not work simply because it needs DLL files. There are programs dependent on these DLLs to run.

The right thing to do then is to switch it off and then keep track of the PC speed. If the speed shows improvement to a considerable level then let the setting remain intact. If there is no change in the PC speed or stops the initialization of certain programs then retain the initial settings. It should not happen that some applications stop functioning or the system starts crashing. Get back to turning this option “On”.

This is done keeping the one goal in mind and that is – size reduction of files being sent over a local network.

RDC enables the systems of a local network work with greater efficiency. To disable this option, open the Control Panel. Click on Programs. Click on features. You will come across a “Turn ON/OFF Windows Features”. As you get a list remove the option of Remote Differential Compression. Click on Ok.
